Contact whilst off sick....please help!!! 4 Years ago
Hi. Can anyone please help me with this matter.......?

I have recently been off work for a period of two weeks. During the first week of absence, my doctor told me to 'self-cert' and then I had to be signed off for another week as I was no better. Anyway, during the first week, and my Manager knew the situation, I was contacted almost everyday by either text to my mobile, or phone call. Is this leagal? I felt pressured and like I was 'letting the team down' due to my absence. I needed time to recover peacefully, but all I got was 'when are you coming back' and 'you need to call the area manager to explain'.

Sorry it's so long. Where do I stand? What can I do?

Thankyou.

Personally, I would make a brief log of calls/texts received each day, who they were from, what they were regarding, and maybe the duration of your time taken up.
Hopefully, when you go back in to work nothing more is said, but if it is, you can pull out the hand-written log along with a letter and provide a copy to Management/HR. You can word it in a polite(ish) way, such as raising a concern as to how it was affecting your recuperation and that the company should implement procedures which address this.
Everyone has a care of duty and care to their employers/co-workers and this method of raising an issue should avoid it from continuing for you and others.

ACAS (http://www.acas.org.uk/) has a helpline and information about this type of thing.
