SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Internal periodicalsLexisNexis publishes a range of magazines and journals covering specialist subject areas. We welcome articles and ideas for consideration. Please send your article or précis of the article to the editor of the magazine. Authors will be notified as soon as possible of the Editor’s decision on the acceptability of the article. Authors are required to state that the article submitted has not been sent to any other magazine or journal and it is a condition of publication that authors grant an exclusive licence to LexisNexis.
New Law Journal (NLJ): SPECIFIC STYLE POINTS FOR AUTHORS New Law Journal is a weekly publication reporting on recent legal developments within the dispute resolution and civil litigation arena (NB we do not cover criminal law). It offers hard hitting independent analysis by experts in their field, together with the practical implications of new case law and legislation. Subscriber base: solicitors, barristers, in-house lawyers, large corporations, academics and students.
- The maximum word length is 1,800 words (two pages in NLJ) per article. The minimum word length is 800 words (one page).
- Please provide a short summary (ie two or three bullet points) of the article’s most relevant points and/or practice points
- The piece should not be overly technical, but practical and engaging.
- Wherever possible the article should be topical and relevant to our subscriber base (see below)—and should be practitioner orientated.
- Law should be set in context; the article should contain analysis and comment.
- Articles are not to be used overtly as "show cases" for firms or chambers.
- We do not run footnotes: please remove / incorporate footnotes before submitting any articles
- Bullet points, etc, sub-headings and tables should be used wherever possible to break up the text.
- The author should supply a short, punchy heading if possible. The stand first and bullet point signposts are written by NLJ (although any suggestions from the author are welcome).
- The end shot should consist of the name of the author and firm/chambers. It is taken as read that the author is a specialist in the area s/he is writing on. E-mail addresses/websites can be listed.
- When writing about a recent case and comparing it with past cases please ensure that the most recent case is mentioned first.
- Articles from pupil barristers/students/trainee solicitors will not be accepted unless co-written with someone suitably qualified, ie legally trained or an academic in the legal field.
- Cases should include full citations, preferably with an All ER reference. If a case is unreported please provide the hearing date.
- When typing your article, please only include one space after a full stop.
- Once an article is accepted for publication NLJ sends authors a contract, which should be signed and returned as soon as possible.
- NLJ retains full editorial control pursuant to the terms in the contract.
- Authors are e-mailed proofs for their approval and corrections.
